Lauren E. Hansen
Lauren Hansen, M.D., is a board eligible orthopedic surgeon who joined Summit Orthopedic Specialists in 2015. Fellowship-trained in sports medicine, she cares for patients in Summit’s Grass Valley office, providing general orthopedic care to pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Hansen’s professional interests include sports medicine and the care of the athlete, as well as fracture care and total joint replacement.
After earning a medical degree from Albany Medical College, Dr. Hansen completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Tufts University School of Medicine and a sports medicine fellowship at Tahoe Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Hansen is a team physician for the U.S. Ski Team, supporting the team at training camps and competitions. She also has an interest in wilderness medicine and served as co-founder and race director of the Medical Wilderness Adventure Race Northeast during medical school. Dr. Hansen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Hansen’s interest in medicine began during high school and college when she worked with sport horses, helping with general veterinary care, gait analysis, and non-operative and post-operative rehabilitation. As an orthopedic surgeon, she enjoys working closely with each patient to provide individualized care best suited to his or her lifestyle and goals for returning to activity.
Outside of orthopedics, Dr. Hansen enjoys horseback riding and competition, skiing, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, diving, hunting and fishing.
